If you ask me Alex was very nervous but also he was sad at the same time.Later, he was very angry and disappointed about his father and they had a small argument. Alex can't understand that Tom never contact him in the last 16 years.
I was a little bit right when I wrote that Alex ask his father a lot of questions. He didn't asked questions about his life in Australia but he asked him why he never visited him.
(p. 32 l. 2/3) "Wasn't I good enough for you? Didn't you like me?"
